What Are The Osprey Short Film Awards?

Each year at the festival we celebrate local film making by showing a selection of short films. A panel of judges select the very best of these films and reward the talented film makers the prestigious Osprey awards.

2014 Shortlist

The films selected for the 2014 competition will be shown at The Alhambra on Saturday 1st March at 3:30pm where the winners will be announced and presented with their prizes.

This year we have selected four films, one winner and three highly commended in each category. At the screening one film will also be selected for the Audience Award.

Two best friends, John and Tom, couldn't decide what to do for Halloween to keep Tom's younger sister happy so they persuaded her to go into the haunted allotment at night. What they didn't know was that the mentally ill father who lost his child was preparing for a revenge, at the same place where his daughter was murdered...

Wigton Youth Station with Tom Lloyd (10 mins)

When Olivia finds herself faced with homelessness, she begins to see parallels with Dickensian Britain. This film aims to challenge the stereotyping of young people within the young peoples community in Wigton.

Joe Beaumont fell 40 feet from a crag in Eskdale and suffered multiple and complex injuries. The Eskdale mountain rescue team saved his life. Since the fall and while 'in the frame' that is re-building his right leg, Joe has completed an epic fund-raising climb, canoe, walk and cycle ride part of which was the challenge to once again climb Little Chamonix in Borrowdale.

Reluctantly and brutally early one keen autumn morning Charlotte leaves her family slumbering and ventures into the inspirational beauty of the Cumbrian fells. One Last Walk charts her mini adventures and remembrances of her life's relationship with Sheila, her larger than life mother.
