Talks 2 & 3: Neil Sinyard. Author of twenty books on cinema. Senior Lecturer in Film Studies, University of Hull
Among the issues to be raised during this general overview of film adaptation will be whether 'fidelity' to the original is essential, possible or even desirable; is adaptation a form of reproduction and illustration or, alternatively, a form of interpretation and translation. With film extracts.
This lecture will consider some of the issues raised by adapting literary classics for the screen. It will particularly consider some recent adaptations of Jane Austen, Henry James and Edit Wharton, including Mansfield Park and The House Of Mirth.
