For a scenic drive through the Lake District, leave the M6 at J36 (Kendal) and take the A591 via Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere.
A more direct route from both the South and the North is to leave the M6 at J40 (Penrith) and take the A66 straight through to Keswick.
Roadworks affecting Keswick Film Festival 2018
Highways England have announced that there will be night-time closures (8.00pm – 6.00am) of the A66 during the Festival.
The closures will be at Threlkeld, to the east of Keswick.
Unfortunately, this will affect those heading home towards Penrith after the evening screenings. The Official
diversion can be ignored as it takes in Carlisle and the motorway however there are alternative routes, albeit using back roads.
Further details and information will be provided over the Festival weekend – at least the weather forecast is on our side.
The nearest railway station to Keswick is Penrith, served by Virgin Trains. A bus service, taking forty minutes, connects Penrith railway station with Keswick Bus
Station. Taxis from Keswick will meet trains at Penrith by prior arrangement.
The nearest international airports to Keswick are Newcastle (93 miles), Blackpool (97 miles) and Manchester (124 miles). Further afield are Birmingham and London Gatwick and London Heathrow.
