A double-bill, one fictional, the other fact, on the topic
of suicide bombings. An act that baffles, angers, and sickens
people the world over, yet seems to have no end of volunteers
or supporters who see the perpetrators as martyrs.
Paradise Now tells the story of two Palestinian friends
recruited for a fatal assignment that has unexpected consequences,
a story told credibly and non-judgementally by director
and co-writer Hany Abu-Assad. Depicting their mission in
vivid detail he avoids creating both martyrs and monsters.
