A young, pregnant Irish girl is in Birmingham looking for her feckless lover when she meets Mr Hilditch (Hoskins in brilliant form), a quiet and caring canteen manager who offers her a lift and friendly advice. Atom Egoyan is a master of creating disturbing cinema and this gripping adaptation of the William Trevor novel is like nothing else you will see in the cinema today.
