2019 Festival

28 Feb - 3 Mar 2019

Welcome to the 20th Keswick Film Festival

Now that we have added the film programme, you now have the chance to start planning what you would like to see.

Back in 2007, I couldn't get in to see Little Miss Sunshine at the Festival. Instead, I went to see After the Wedding, a Swedish film starring Mads Mikkelsen and Sidse Babett Knudsen. It blew me away and both lead actors have gone on to great things. This year they are back – OK not in the same film but Sidse (Borgen, Duke of Burgundy) appears in In Fabric, which will be a chilling way to start your Friday while Mads stars in Arctic, a gripping thriller for Sunday evening.

In between those two there is a marvellously eclectic range of films to see, from Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in Fighting with My Family to Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem in Everybody Knows; and from Scrabble and Bill Nighy in Sometimes Always Never to the Colombian drugs trade in Birds of Passage.

If my experience in 2007 is anything to go by, your new year's resolution should be – be bold in your film choices!

Looking forward to meeting up again in February,

Ian Payne
