2009 - 2010 Programme

We hope the 2009-10 CAFS season will attract support from both existing and new members. Presentations are on Fri evenings in Caldbeck Village Hall starting at 7.30pm. The only exceptions are on 14 Nov 2009 and 13 Feb 2010, when there is a supper followed by the film, when the event starts at 6.30pm. Put the following dates in your diaries, for we have an exciting programme to please all tastes.

  • 18 Sep Slumdog Millionaire - Oscar-winning drama set in Mumbai as young man tries to win a quiz and his love despite his background.
  • 23 Oct The Reader - Powerful drama set in Germany following World War II, which examines responsibility and guilt through the relationship of a teenaged boy and his older lover.
  • 14 Nov I've Loved You So Long - French drama portraying the complex reactions of a family, when one sister is released from a prison sentence. (Film+supper evening)

2010

  • 8 Jan Goodbye Lenin - Comedy set in East Germany during the fall of Communism. Son desperately tries to keep this change from his ardent communist mother, who has just recovered from a coma so she won't be shocked.
  • 13 Feb Casablanca - The classic romance set in Paris and North Africa with Bogart and Bergman. Love lost and found, dastardly Germans, moments of comedy and courage and of course, Play it Sam... (Film+supper evening)
  • 19 Mar The Age of Stupid - Drama documentary portraying the effects of climate change on certain groups of people in the future, if the world does not start dealing with the problem now. (Sponsoredby Caldbeck & Hesket Newmarket Fairtraders)
  • 16 April The Damned United - Entertaining football drama charting the dramatic 44 days in 1974 when Brian Clough managed Leeds United, with a stellar British cast.

The programme may be changed at short notice, if there are circumstances beyond our control.
