Synopsis

50 years on, Tommy needs no introduction; it was Ken Russell at his raucous best. It will be a joy to see Pete Townshend's characters on the big screen – Elton John's Pinball Wizard, Tina Turner's Acid Queen, Keith Moon's Uncle Ernie, Jack Nicholson's Specialist and of course, the incomparable Roger Daltrey.

Tommy gained critical acclaim, too, with two Oscar nominations, a Golden Globe for Ann Margret alongside a nomination for Daltrey as a debut actor.

Throw in the Borrowdale scenery and this will make for quite an afternoon!

open_quote One thing is sure: there has never been a movie musical quite like Tommy, a weird, crazy, wonderfully excessive version of The Who's rock opera. close_quote TIME

open_quote Ken Russell's filmization of Tommy is spectacular in nearly every way. close_quote Variety
