Dreams (Drømmer)
Cert: 12A Year: 2024 Length: 110 mins Language: Norwegian
Synopsis
17 year-old Johanne has a crush on her new teacher Johanna, building into first love and even obsession. "In desperation, Johanne goes round to see Johanna uninvited, knocks tearfully on her door and Johanna opens it and hugs her, apparently instantly empathetic" - Peter Bradshaw, Guardian.
Much of the film though is told one year later, when Johanne presents her poet grandmother Karen with the manuscript of an intimate memoir. But is it fact or fiction, real or just dreams? Karen is more struck by Johanne's talent for writing - better than her own - whilst Kristin, Johanne's mother, is worried that her daughter might have suffered sexual abuse. The film, though reminds us "that though our desires may shift over time they stay with us long after we've scrambled out of our teenage years" - Amber Wilkinson, Eye for Film.
